saw you on TipJunkie- I know that I would use those spools to store my crafting ribbon on! I have a huge collection and am constantly struggling with the best way to store them. I love your two spools- especially the pretty stick pin! :D

There are so many variations you could do with this concept of picture holders.

I ordered a baggie of these with the idea of using them as box feet, because as much as I love the Tim Holtz metal ones they can get expensive lol.
You could paint some and use them for drawer pulls on embelly containers or boxes. You could string some of them, painted and decorated, like the two you posted, and hang them from your window(s), sun catcher style. You could glue several together, end to end, paint them the color of your floss and add flosses that color to the spools.You could decorate some and hang as ceiling fan pulls.
I thought of one more. You could decorate them, like the two you posted, glue them together, in an interesting way and make an abstract art form. One more...use some as mini-box pulls, like on a mini album box, attached to the top of the box to open with.
In the mean time, put them in a clear jar or vase and have an interesting organic looking vase. I filled all my flower vases, all different shapes and sizes, with rock, pebbles from dollar tree. And display them throughout my house.
Oh! One of our customers just showed us her own 'mini spool' idea! She used vintage spools that she had purchased on Ebay and spooled our baker's twine on them...they were so cute! Or another one of our customers used mini spools embellished with our twine to create a custom frame - it was so cute! You can see the ideas here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/1449357@N23/

i would paint them and cover them with paper - making little banners and then stringing them together to make a garland or banner string. . . would be really cute in a baby's room . . .
I like the photo holder idea, but also using the top part of the spool to place them. Also, decorating the body of the spool with pretty paper.

Apparently Jillibean Soup did a phenomenal "spool" wreath in their booth during CHA. They wrapped the spools with different patterned papers. The images are so dreamy...just do a google search for spool wreath at CHA and lots of images pop up! Enjoy!
You could use them as legs :) for all kinds of things like plant stands - allows for better drainage. Use them to hang things on like inside your kitchen or bathroom cupboards. Put a suction cup on one end and use it in the bathroom shower to hang your scrubby. Make a cat toy - hang it from a piece of yarn. Let little kids paint them and make necklaces l- and stuff...
I've seen where they use them for coat hooks.

I love your blog and ideas. I hope you don't mind but I scraplifted your tag idea with the butterflies because it was so cute. I like your tag more however. :)
One idea for the spools is to paint them (or not) wrap them in thread or ribbon and glue them to a picture frame minus the glass (see here: http://katiebeecreative.com/?p=3035) She of course used mini spools but I think it would look so cute as a big picture! Have fun!

My brother and I in highschool painted some black and white and made a homemade chess set!
Love your find of the wooden spools. I'd put them together ends up so you can see the labels for a wreath shape wall hanging (tie a ribbon around the outside of the hanging to harbor all those spools). The ribbon storage thing is great too!

I have seen some beautiful wreths made sith pretty paper and spools. I am also thinking garland for a doorway or mantle, christmas ornaments, knobs for little gift boxes.....a little shelf with these used as a spot for your keys or to store ribbon, photo stands with some decorative wire used to slip your photo into.....and last but not least.....this is what I would do until I found an idea I like....toss them all into a clear vase and just admire them!

use them to store things like embroidery thread- they would look so cool sitting on a shelf like that or just natural stacked in a pyramid- you are so lucky to get such a treasure.-you could also make them into pixie stools for tiny pixies to sit on.
I would paint them and use as dimensionals on different project as a "perch" for a bird on a birdhouse, flower holder for paper flowers or maybe making photo holders with wire in them! I would think of lots more....what about sharing them!
