A Quick Tag and Weekend Plans

You know what the great thing about taking classes is? You are probably thinking - the wonderful teachers, the inspiration, the fantastic projects, etc - well sure those too BUT ALSO - scraps! I made this tag with the leftover scraps from last night's What Matter's Most Series at Memories Galore (and for you non MG readers - the Basic Grey Oct Page kit of the month). And for my weekend plans I hope to clean and organize my scrapbook stuff:I'm sure you are looking at the picture and thinking - wow that is a mess BUT it's not that much stuff - I bet you could clean it up fast - ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha - that's JUST my dining room - the bigger project is my actual craft room:Yeah it's not looking so good is it? And yes that's a giant box FULL of ribbon sitting in the middle of the room - that's going to be a blast organizing! And at some point I hope to get around to these - the pile of printer's trays I picked up last weekend!

That girl that makes those tags...

So I think I'm going to become "that girl that makes those tags" - The other Melissa says I'm on a roll - I'm afraid I'm in a rut - but I'm addicted to these cute little pieces of art - they are so easy to make and allow me to invest a small amount of time creating something every day. I do have a couple of larger projects I'm hoping I will be able to spend some time this weekend working on - but until then I'm going to be sticking with my tags: I made this tag using the new Websters Pages Hollywood Vogue paper and trims and Prima flowers and leaves. I work at Memories Galore in Richmond VA and I LIVE for new product - seriously - I HAVE to have everything that comes in - it's dangerous - we just got the new Webster lines and some Prima in so I had to buy and it bring it home and play!

It's Genetic...

Ever wonder where I got my need to create things? Ok honestly probably not... but I'm going to tell you anyways - It's totally genetic. You're probably thinking - oh you have artist parents? Well no - they were air traffic controllers - but they do have creative hobbies - so today I'm going to show you a little of what they do -

My mom scrapbooks and creates mini albums -she's the one who got my started in scrapbooking - and now I'm the one who teaches her about all the newest products. Here are some of her creations:She also has a facebook page and an etsy shop.

My dad is creative too - he makes tikis - yeah you read that right - TIKIS! He just picked it up one day about two years ago - crazy right? Look at them though they are awesome! He doesn't sell them - he just makes them and gives them to family members - mostly keeps them though - you can imagine what my parents back deck looks like! It's like a tiki party!

And then there's Danielle, my sister - she was the real artist of the family - I don't know if she's even still creating art - but look at this - her and her friend made this in high school - isn't it fantastic - it's hard to tell but it's HUGE!So there you have it - just an interesting little look at my family!

Off with her head!

Well Dustin and I are back from our weekend in the mountains - still need to add pictures to the travel journal before I will be ready to show it here. But I wanted to show a tag I made yesterday with a book I found at a thrift store for a quarter!

I was so excited to find this - Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and i was even more excited when I opened it and saw this: Look familiar? Yes its the same images in the Graphic 45 Halloween in Wonderland: The black and white images and text are perfect paired with the paper line: You can view this tag in the two peas gallery here

Green at Heart Tag Tutorial

I am stuck on these tags so here is a quick tutorial of a tag I made using the Basic Grey Green at Heart Collection. Hope you enjoy!
2 Take a shipping tag (found at local office supply store) Adhere to the back side of the patterned paper. Trim off excess paper. Set an eyelet in the tag hole Ink the edges with your favorite distress ink - I used vintage photo because I am going through a vintage photo phase!
To make the pleats at the bottom first cut a strip of paper - I was using a 6x6 paper pad so I cut a strip 3/4" x 6" (usually i cut a piece longer because this fell a little short - however i just covered it with a sticker). Beginning at one end start to fold over the pleats. To adhere to the tag - put a piece of scor tape down on the tag first then place the pleats on top.
Pick out a sticker you like - to make it "unsticky" rub baby powder over the back of the sticker. Pop dot it and adhere to the tag. You want to make it unsticky so that when the tag is being handled it doesn't stick to itself. (or pick up random dirt)Embellish - I cut a flower in half and adhered above the pleat and then adhered some bling. Cut a strip from coordinating paper - Cut the "green at heart" out of the sticker sheet and adhere to the strip - cut the words out and pop dot. When I make ATCs and tags I often look to the tear strips on paper to see what the name is - often times I can use these pieces on my tag/ATC.Embellish with a butterfly - use baby powder to make the sticker unsticky and then apply a thin line of glue on the butterfly and push up the wings. Use baby powder and pop dot a heart. Attach ribbon or tulle to the top of the tag and you're done! I'm thinking these tags are going to catch on! If you are posting a tag on your blog - let me know and I might do a post featuring you soon!

Somewhere, Anywhere, Everywhere Tag

I think I am addicted to making tags! Actually ever since I did my 30 Days of Creativity project I have found that I feel the need to make something every day and tags are quick and easy (they are a lot like ATCs!) So using the scraps from my travel journal I made this travel tag - I am not sure what I will use it for - it might go in the journal or on a layout later. You can view this project in the two peas gallery here

October Travel Journal - In Progress

Dustin and I are planning to take a trip to the mountains soon for our anniversary (which was October 13th) so I have been in the process of creating a travel journal. I'm not sure what I like better - traveling or creating a travel journal and looking for things to put in it! I am not quite where I want to be with this one but I do have a few photos to share: I made the cover out of a dictionary that I ripped the covers off of and glued a piece of paper to the side that was torn. Because I liked the cover as is I didn't want to put a title on it - I added some stickers to the bottom corner and I plan on adding something else just not quite sure what at this point. And fyi the cover isn't photography well because I mod podged it and the light is causing a glare. Hopefully I can take better pictures sometime later to show you! Here is the title page - I just layered stickers and paper and added some vintage photo distress ink. This is as far as I've gotten so far - if you want to see all my posts about travel journals including the one I made in August and the one I did last year click here.
